We should however also keep in mind the
position of the gazetted officers of the Ceylon
Police Force. Mr. Thomas minuted recently on this
and said that if transfers were not arranged soon
we might lose some very good officers of the Ceylon
pombery
Police Force as there was a danger of them thin resigning retiring under the new Constitution waudh herbals seeking & Wief & mustaths Posts in the country, There are many Police officers in the
West Indian territories who would like transfers,
mainly owing to the lower salaries generally
prevailing there, and we try to consider them when-
ever possible (information has been received of
the resignation of two Police Officers in the
West Indies since the list opposite was prepared),
but we have arranged a number of transfers from
the West Indies in the last year or two and some
are at present under consideration for Police
posts in Sarawak.
In the circumstances I would suggest that
subject to observations of Middle East Department, Ceylon Pacific and Far Eastern Departments, that
we provisionally allocate one vacancy to be filled
by transfer from Palestine and one from Ceylon.
As regards Palestine I suggest we ask the High
Commissioner (referring to his latest telegrams)
whether he could recommend and release one officer
of gazetted rank under 30 for transfer to Hong Kong
as Assistant Superintendent of Police. Regarding
Ceylon, Mr. Davies is noted for transfer and
diss although his last report is not too good, previous
reports shows that he was able to carry on satis-
factorily for six months in a post normally filled
by a senior Superintendent.
